The much-anticipated 46664 fashion collection launched at Stuttafords a few weeks ago.

The first run of the 46664 collection debuted at Sandton Citys Stuttafords. A full range of menswear including golf shirts, tailored shirts, pull overs, jeans and formal wear in a range of bright colours all with the hand motif that is indicative of the 46664 brand. Additional details include shwe shwe trims and button holing details. Womenswear was a little leaner and veering towards leisurewear with statement t-shirts, easy jeans and a selection of jersey day dresses.

Here are a few pictures of photographs from the launch, and photographs of the ad campaign!

Sharing is caring, even in fashion!

One of the things I am enjoying most about my classes on Fashion Entrepreneurship are the people. To be sitting in a room with people from various areas of fashion, of many age groups, & different life experiences has been truly amazing. I am surrounded by a wealth of knowledge. Everyone is so eager to share their experiences & dilemmas, and its so cool how we can all relate to it, and understand what its about. And even we haven't been in that situation, we take away that lesson, and know what not to do.

I cannot speak for the international fashion industry, but I can speak from my experiences here in South Africa. I have encountered people, designers who are just not willing to help or even give advice to other people starting up in the industry. And yes, I do not believe that they have to do anything for me or anyone else, but at least send an email saying "NO!" It common decency, you know. And this is what I believed most people in fashion to be like until I started the Fashion entrepreneurship classes.

I have been so interested in designing swimwear for quite a while now, but I honestly didn't know much about it. I had tried on numerous occasions to make contact with a swimwear designer here in Durban in the hopes for an internship or any sort of advice really, and nothing. No phone calls returned. No emails. Not even a facebook message. But you know what, its OK. I Googled. I watched youtube videos. And I am lucky enough to have a swimwear designer in my class every Saturday afternoon. To her its a few random tips, but to me, its some of the best words of advice Iv received, ever! And now, I am practising, trying to understand & perfect designing swimwear. And I am loving it!

So yes, for me its a happy ending, I am surrounded by people who are eager to share & help. But what about the people who not have the opportunity to be learning alongside these creative geniuses? I thinks its really sad that some people who have 'made it' just don't care to help or advise the next person. Maybe its just me, but I honestly believe that there is enough business out there for everyone. In 2007, South African design icon Gavin Rajah mentored David Tlale & a few other young talents. And today, David Tlale is one of South Africa's biggest designers. But so is Gavin Rajah. And had Gavin Rajah not helped him along, Tlale may not be where he is today.

So, if you can help someone in your industry, do it. You really never know how you may be affecting that person's life.

David Tlale at Joburg Fashion Week

Joburg Fashion Week ended with a bang as designer David Tlale closed the event on the Nelson Madela Bridge. David Tlale used the show to pay tribute to Mr Nelson Mandela. He ven went as far as using 92 models to mark the age of Madiba.

Tlales collection was inspired by Madiba, and each model represented a year in the life of the icon. They included the likes of Sonia and Matthew Booth, Gerry Rantseli-Elsdon, Michelle Botes, Jen Sue, Noni Gasa, Azania Ndoro, Tatum Keshwar and Roland Schoeman, who walked the 284m open air runway on 19 February as fashion week drew to a close.

In a media statement, the City of Johannesburg noted that, through this fashion week, it was able to showcase its flexibility in allowing multiple uses of its existing facilities and open spaces, promoting Joburg as a business and events destination and emphasising the creative minds in the broader arts industry. It also showed off Joburg as a brand to the world, thus contributing to the money that was gained through both local and international media coverage of the event. This event also had an economic spin off in that jobs, even temporary ones, were created to the benefit of the locals, said the City.

Joburg Fahsion Week 2011

Today marks Day 4 of Joburg Fashion Week, and for those of you who weren't fortunate enough to attend. Here are some pictures. Enjoy!

 Abigail Betz

I love this collection by Abigail Betz. Her designs are characterised by femininity and romance. This collection was showcased at The Johannesburg Art Gallery.

Errol Arendz
Errol Arendz has been a busy man, he not only stocks various boutiques and stores, but he also owns luxury fashion brands such as DuSud and EA Ready to Wear. Loving his collection at Joburg Fashion Week this year. His collection was showcased at The Bus Factory show venue.

Suzaan Heyns
A designer renowned for her avant-garde collections. Her highly structured garments are not for the faint-hearted, but you have got to love Suzaan Heyns for giving us something exciting and new to look at, and even wear.

Kluk CGDT
If there is one thing you can count on is the careful attention to detail on all clothing produced by this brand. I love the prints, and the Asian inspiration of the collection. Beautiful work.

I am especially excited to see what David Tlale has to offer, so watch this space.

Johannesburg Fashion Week 2011

It's official, and the date has been set.  Joburg Fashion Week will run from 15-19 February 2011.  African Fashion International Chairperson Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe announced that Joburg Fashion Week will take an entirely new direction for 2011.  Top industry player, Jan Malan of Umzingeli has been recruited  by AFI in order to create a platform that transcends the clich of a South African Fashion Week.

Venues for the various shows include The Bus Factory and The Rand Club. David Tlale will close the week on the Nelson Mandela Bridge. Other designers participating include Errol Arendz and Suzaan Heyns. Well, judging by the venues alone...Im sure it will be anything but cliche.

I am personally in love with the campaign pictures :)
