JLO in GOLD Dolce&Gabbana!!!

Watching American Idol this evening, I was immediately taken by Jennifer Lopez in a gold sequin star dress by none other than Dolce & Gabbana. WOW!!! I had previously blogged about this Fall 2011 collection by Dolce & Gabbana, and was pleasantly pleased to see how stunningly Jennifer's curves filled this dress.
First up is a photograph from the runway:

And here is Jennifer in the dress:

Now tell me you don't think she is absolutely rocking it?! Seriously gorgeous!!! #inlove But what I also remembered after Jennifer took it back a few seasons in this dress, is that Miss Kim Kardashian was also spotted wearing this dress. October 2011 to be exact, on the cover of Harper's Bazaar Arabia. She too filled out the dress in a fabulous manner. Talk about dangerous curves ahead! #love

So what do you think of these curvaceous women in this stunning dress??? Do comment below!

Kardashian Kollection?!

So the Kardashian sisters have attached their name to yet another clothing line..This time with with Sears, and it's called the Kardashian Kollection! Don't get me wrong, I really like their style and all. But it does become alil tired when they keep attaching their name to products & clothing brands.

On a positive note, I really loved the way these sisters dressed to the launch party for the Kardashian Kollection with Sears. One can seldom fault them on their style!

??

Loving Khloe & Kim in leopard print. But Kourtney looks uper cute in this nude feminine frock!
??

But what I found really interesting when reading up on this Kardashian Kollection is that the collection is making headlines for a bag that looks oh so similar to a standout piece from the Botkier Fall 2009 collection hhmmm? The Kardashian Kollection produced the leopard bag on the right, and the black leather bag on the left was designed by Botkier in 2009. The question on my mind, and Im sure yours is 'Did the Kardashians copy the Botkier bag?'

According to Botkier, yes they did. Botkier realeased this statement:
"We just discovered how our Botkier 'Clyde' was simply copied by Kardashian Kollection for Sears. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery but we don't think so.."  Their point is a valid one, but the fact remains that most people who wear Botkier arent likely to head to Sears for the Kardashian Kollection, and thus they arent losing any potential consumers. So who cares?

?

Botkier vs Kardashian
?
I love the Kardashian Kollection Ad Campaign pictures! They were shot by the legendary Annie Leibovitz!

Here are some pics of the Kollection..Enjoy!

Would you wear a Denim Vest?

The denim vest trend was popular on the runways last season and is making a statement on the streets this season, with the likes of Kim Kardashian & Ciara wearing them. Since a denim vest is typically an edgy, unexpected piece, you can wear it to toughen up any outfit. In addition, a studded or worn-in denim vest can also create great contrast when paired with a cute summer dress.

Personally, I love this trend for its versatility after all, denim goes with everything. Also, there are so many options available: If you arent a fan of light denim or studs, you can easily find black or white denim vests! Theres truly a style of denim vest out there for everyone.

Brett's Top 7: June 2011

The other day I was browsing my favourite blogs, as i usually do. And I came across a great idea from my blogger friend from Singapore, Veena. On her blog Seven-Inch-Stilettos she had a list of her Top 10 things for that day/week/month, and I thought wow, that's a cool idea. Why not try it too.

I decided to opt for a monthly post on my Top 7 things for that particular month. I chose 7 because my boyfriend thinks its the best number ever. lol. And yes, this is the first of many more posts like these to come :)

This is the Top 7 list I will follow each month.

Has fashion gone too far? Is retouching in fashion magazines ok?

When will fashion be real?

MOST readers of fashion magazines are aware that all photographs, at least to some degree, lie. More often than not, images have been altered historically with painstaking tricks of lighting and exposure and, more recently, with retouching software that can make celebrities and models look thinner, taller, unblemished, with brighter eyes and whiter teeth. Seemingly perfect.
The ethical issues of retouching have been discussed at least since the 1930s, when George Hurrell manipulated characteristics of Hollywood actresses in photographs to make them into icons of glamour. But technology has changed the scope of the debate, fueling a long-held criticism that magazines are promoting an unattainable standard of beauty.
In the early 1990s, as the first programs for digital manipulation came into use, some art directors began exploring the potential for creating images with a heightened sense of reality, actually as a reaction against the prevailing images of supermodels that looked too perfect.
Photoshop, the go-to graphics editing program that got a foothold in the 1990s, has become so ubiquitous that most of us gaze at faces, bodies and landscapes, not even registering that wrinkles have been diminished, legs lengthened and the sky honed to a dream-like shade of blue. And, unlike its predecessor, airbrushing, anyone can use it.

Here are a few pictures of celebrities and models who have been on the Photoshop-diet.

Kim Kardashian (above) has practically made a living off her curvaceous figure. But she was looking a little less shapely in Complex magazine. Her body has been reduced by about a dress size, her legs have been smoothed to near-perfection, and even her skin has been lightened.

Kimora Lee Simmons (pictured below) was famously fired as CEO of Baby Phat for going over budget, and paying herself exorbitant fees for ad campaigns even though she used body doubles. Thousands of dollars were spent on airbrushing her because she is a size 10 not size 0. Apparently, the photographer would shoot another model in the clothes, and take Kimora's head and put it on the body of the model. And it's quite obvious when you look at the pictures below. Does she think the public is stupid? She actually looks sick in the ad campaign picture. Her head is clearly too big for the body!

After looking at the above pictures, I decided to see exactly what the Photoshop-diet does. Now anyone who has seen me knows that I'm not overweight or anything. But who better to try it on than myself. I watched a few tutorials and spent an hour or two working in Photoshop, but I think illustrated the point I am trying to get across. Please note that I am no professional, so it's not perfectly Photoshopped, but I did try.
You will notice in the above picture that my breasts have been enlarged, my thighs and overall body shape has been thinned, and my arms are drastically thinner. Its a small difference, but a difference none the less. Oh and, the strings on the bikini bottom have become distorted (I'll say it again, I'm no professional).
I think that the perfect bodies we see in our favourite magazines have a terrible effect of how women feel about their own bodies. It no wonder approximately 8 million Amercians and 1 million South Africans have an eating disorder. And those are just the recorded numbers. What's even sadder is that this is the kind of society we are bringing children into. I'm by no means saying that its OK for people to be obese, I just think that the standards that we are held up to are kind of ridiculous. Living a healthy lifestyle, regardless of your size should be the most important thing.

2011 SAG Awards Worst Dressed

Here are my picks for the worst dresses at the 2011 SAG Awards.

Eva Longoria usually hits the ball out the park, but not in this dress. The dress was ill-fitted, and the waistline was too low.
Hailee Steinfeld in Prada. Love the colours, but that's about it.

January Jones in Carolina Herrera. No words for this one.

Jennifer Lawrence in Oscar de la Renta. I think the belt was too harsh against the hot-pink dress.

Kim Kardashian in this Grecian style gown. There are sooo many things wrong with this look, I don't know where to start. It's not at all flattering.

Melissa Leo...too much shine.

I love Natalie Portman, but this dress just isn't right for her and her cute baby bump. It looked even worse on TV.

Nicole Kidman in Nina Ricci.
