Welcome to the whimsical, exotic world of this iconic Italian designer with a new book of his fashion sketches
Its not always immediately obvious that the dynamic sketches of Gianfranco Ferr are fashion designs: his flickering, darting pen lines and swirls of bright colour could almost be the work of an architect or abstract expressionist. The spidery figures that stalk through the pages of his sketchbooks, rendered in swooping dynamic lines, are like something from a Vorticist canvas.
Ferr passed away in 2007 after 50 years setting the golden standard for Italian style. Known as the architect of fashion, he was originally poised to design buildings rather than clothing and studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. A new book, Gianfranco Ferr Drawings, shows we should be grateful for his decision to swap columns for couture, as his fantastical fashion drawings are collated for the first time in print.
I think this book would make for a great purchase for yourself, or even as a gift for anyone who appreciates fashion & art. Enjoy!
